About this place
Large platters of fresh sashimi and horse mackerel namerou—pounded fresh to order—anchor the cooking at Akabee, an unassuming izakaya on the 2th floor of a building close to Ayase Station. Hearty seasonal raw oysters and generous six-variety sashimi platters showcase the rich flavors of the catch, well matched with a draft Sapporo Black Label or a dry junmai sake.
Beyond seafood, the kitchen prepares a solid lineup of drinking snacks: broiled miso-marinated cream cheese, smoky iburigakko pickles paired with cream cheese, and dashi-rich thick rolled omelet. Skewered house-made tsukune meatballs and piping-hot cheese-topped tonpeiyaki pork-and-egg pancakes also pair well with sweet potato shochu labels like Isami and Kuro Kirishima, or a refreshing chuhai.
Unusually for a neighborhood izakaya, Akabee offers house-made ni-hachi soba to round off the meal. The clean buckwheat fragrance and silky slip of the noodles make for a light, refreshing finish after an evening of drinks. Nigiri, temaki hand rolls, and rice balls seasoned with oyster soy sauce are also available to suit whatever mood strikes.
The dining room features counter seating alongside sunken-hearth horigotatsu tatami spaces where diners can stretch out in comfort. Whether stopping by solo on a quiet evening or settling in with friends over shared plates and drinks, it is an easy place to keep in mind when craving thoughtful food and good sake in Ayase.
